The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) says cross-strait exchanges have not been affected by the controversy over the recent departure of MAC Deputy Minister Chang Hsien-yao.
The MAC is Taiwan’s top China policy-making body. It said on Monday that there has been no change in its communications with China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
Chang was forced to step down more than a week ago over “suspicions about his job performance.”
Rumor has it that Chang is suspected of leaking confidential information to China. However, Chang took the initiative to defend his integrity by visiting the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. Chang denied any wrongdoing or misconduct.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s National Security Bureau called on the public not to be misled by media reports, many of which it said were based on speculation. Since Chang is currently under investigation, the bureau called on the public to respect the Investigation Bureau’s proceedings.
