Taiwan’s construction industry, along with the manufacturing and service industries, showed positive growth in July. That’s according to a report released on Monday by the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER).
The report said the construction industry also showed a robust growth in August, outperforming the other two.
An economist with TIER, Liu Pei-cheng, said there are three factors that fuelled the growth.
“First, new development projects are beginning to enter the construction phase, one after the other," said Liu. "Second, the major public infrastructure projects that the construction industry is working on are proceeding smoothly. And more importantly, there are reconstruction projects following the explosions and flooding in southern Taiwan. There is an urgency to repair and rebuild underground pipelines and the sewage system.”
