Taiwan has 68 5-star hotels. That’s the word from the Tourism Bureau on Tuesday. The bureau gave out 38 star ratings on Tuesday.
The bureau has been evaluating and rating hotels for the past five years. It has given 68 hotels a 5-star rating, 47 hotels a 4-star rating, 205 hotels a 3-star rating, 173 hotels a 2-star rating and 28 hotels a 1-star rating. That’s a total of 521 hotels with star ratings in Taiwan.
On Tuesday, Deputy Director General of the Tourism Bureau Liu Hsi-lin spoke about why the bureau has been rating Taiwan’s hotels:
"If it has a star-rating, then it’s a good hotel," said Liu. "An important goal of this star-rating evaluation is to be up to global standards and let international travelers know where these hotels are rated in terms of their facilities and services. So a star-rating is a guarantee of quality and security. It’s the ROC government’s promise to travelers," he said.
The ROC or Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
Liu also said the bureau wants hotels in Taiwan to create their own distinct qualities so the domestic hotel industry can develop its own brands and value.
