Taiwan’s top two LCD panel makers, AUO and Innolux, are upbeat about the prospects for shipments of large panels in the second half of this year.
AUO President Paul Peng told reporters Wednesday at the International Touch Panel and Optical Film Exhibition in Taipei that global market demand for 65-inch TVs is forecast to reach 4 million units this year. That’s roughly 2.5 times last year’s total.
“We’re saying goodbye to the sluggish economy of the previous two years," said Peng. "Here I’d like to tell you a piece of good news: this year will be a year of great harvest for Taiwanese panel makers. Demand has rallied significantly, and production capacity is being fully utilized.”
Innolux President Wang Jyh-chau also said his company has been unable to meet TV panel demand in the current quarter because of strong demand from both developed and emerging markets.
The International Touch Panel and Optical Film Exhibition will run until Friday.
