Consumer confidence index down in August
CCI drop 5.11 points in July

The Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development at National Central University has released the latest figures on Taiwan’s consumer confidence index.

The figures, released Wednesday, show that the consumer confidence index for August fell slightly to 83.06 points. That’s a drop of 5.11 points from July. The figures show that a two month streak of record high consumer confidence has come to an end.

Shia Ben-chang, a professor of information and statistics at Fu Jen Catholic University, says that natural disasters and a series of major accidents are the main factors behind the drop. Shia also said that instability at the administrative level of government is also responsible.

Of the six indexes, the index that fell the most was confidence in the timing for investment in the stock market. The index fell by 11.80 points to 84.10 points.
