Top US, Taiwan brass expected to meet again during APEC
Why not?

High-level officials from Taiwan and the United States will likely hold talks again during the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in November.

That’s according to US senior official for APEC, Robert S. Wang. Wang made the comments in a press conference in Washington DC on Wednesday when asked whether Taiwan’s APEC envoy and US Secretary of State John Kerry would meet. Taiwan’s former Vice President Vincent Siew met Kerry on the sidelines of APEC last year. In response, Wang said “there’s no reason” that this should not happen. But he also said that the US has not decided on an exact schedule.

The next APEC economic leaders’ summit will be held in Beijing on November 10-11. Taiwan has yet to make a formal announcement on who will represent President Ma Ying-jeou at the annual APEC meeting. Taiwan’s president is barred from attending the APEC due to opposition from China. China sees Taiwan as part of its territory, even though the two sides have been ruled separately for more than 60 years.
