Taiwan plans to set Guinness World Record in jump rope
Jumping to a new record

Taiwan is planning to jump its way to a new Guinness World Record on September 9, National Sports Day. This is the first year Taiwan celebrates this new commemorative day that was established last year.

The world’s jump rope record stands at 250 people jumping Double Dutch Style for 1 minute. Taiwan is planning to outdo that record by having 2,000 people jump simultaneously for 3 minutes in New Taipei City, Chiayi County, Pingtung County and Taitung County. After that, 750 students from 14 gym classes in elementary and high schools around Taiwan are going to do jump for 1-minute at a stadium in New Taipei City.

The head of the Sports Administration Ho Jow-fei welcomes people to witness the making of history. "On exactly 9:09 and 9 seconds on September 9, everyone can come and see the making of a new Guinness World Record," Ho said. "This event will build up the nation’s morale and set a new record while our athletes are at the Asian Games."

Olympic gold medalist Chen Shih-his will be the event’s spokesperson. She is very happy to be a part of this event that will challenge people to stretch their limits. Chen is the first athlete in Taiwan to win a gold at the Olympics. She won the gold medal in the women’s 49-kilogram category in taekwondo at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
