Deputy interior minister Hsiao Chia-chi says that the government has dispatched 2,100 police to stand guard outside of the legislature. Activists protesting Taiwan's trade in services agreement with Mainland China have occupied the legislature's assembly hall since Tuesday night.
Speaking on Wednesday, Hsiao said that the government has not yet decided whether to forcibly disperse the protestors.
"We will need to discuss the matter with the legislature's secretariat, general affairs department, and the police and come to a decision," said Hsiao. "Of course, we have exchanged views with them. They will make a judgment based on the situation at the scene, see what needs to be done, and then make a decision."
Hsiao also said that 27 police officers have been injured since the standoff at the legislature began.
