The legislature’s new session is set to open on September 12. Lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties reached the consensus on Tuesday. Premier Jiang Yi-huah is scheduled to deliver his state of the nation report during the opening session.
The caucus whip of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Ker Chien-ming, said the new session must tackle the controversy over the departure of former Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister Chang Hsien-yao. Chang was removed from his post in late August because of “suspicions” about his job performance including a possible leaking of classified information.
Ker also said the DPP will demand a review of previous cross-strait negotiations, including the trade in services agreement that Taiwan signed with China in June 2013.
