Rabbit lovers have two great places in Taiwan to celebrate the Mid-Autumn (or Moon) Festival this year! These aren’t real rabbits, though, they’re art displays that are set to delight visitors through the three day holiday weekend.
One rabbit is the giant 25-meter tall “Moon Rabbit”, which is the work of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who has wowed crowds around the world with his giant rubber ducks. His latest endeavor is part of the 2014 Land Art Festival in the northern county of Taoyuan, which will last through September 14.
Hofman’s “Moon Rabbit” is featured lounging on top of an air force bunker, presumably looking up at the moon. The air base itself is a draw for visitors, since it is not usually open to the public. On Saturday alone, the art festival drew 250,000 visitors.
One of the best times to visit the festival is after four in the afternoon, when the weather turns cooler. Visitors can watch the sky take on its evening colors, while the usually white rabbit is lit by purple lights at night.
If that’s not enough rabbit to satisfy your cuteness quotient, you can always swing by the Hakka Cultural Park in Miaoli County, also in northern Taiwan. There you’ll find several hundred rabbit statues in different poses scattered around the park!
