A food safety expert is calling on the government to crack down on substandard cooking oil factories.
The professor, Chen Chin-chuan from Meiho University in southern Taiwan, has been helping the government conduct food safety inspections over the year. He said that most of the recycled oil can pass food safety inspections because it has been processed and refined. Chen said the recycled oil might be safe to eat, but consumers might not be comfortable eating it.
Chen said that food manufacturers should tighten their control of source materials and that the government should crack down on underground factories.
