The top story from this past week involved talks on a trade in goods agreement with China, which opened in Taiwan on Wednesday. The negotiations are the first of their kind in nearly five months.
Economics minister Woody Duh said on Wednesday that the negotiations will cover industries such as machine tools, flat panels, automobiles, and petrochemicals. But he also said that the agreement actually involves over 7,000 items, so the negotiations will take some time.

Also this past week, Taiwanese pitcher Wei-yin Chen led the Baltimore Orioles to a 10-6 win against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The win improved Chen’s career record to 15 wins in a single season, temporarily placing him as top pitcher from Asia.
The 29-year-old Chen only allowed one run over seven innings as Baltimore completed a three-game sweep of Boston at Fenway Park. Chen allowed only three hits, including a solo homer in the 7th inning, and struck out four.

At 9:30 am on Tuesday, 597 people simultaneously skipped rope Double Dutch Style for one minute at the same venue. UK Guinness World Record official John Garland was there to witness the event.
