Taiwan’s first homegrown budget airline, Tigerair Taiwan, is set to begin service on September 26. The airline will be jointly operated by Taiwan’s flag carrier, China Airlines, and Singapore-based budget airline Tigerair.
Taiwan’s transportation ministry is expected to give the airline the go-ahead soon. Tigerair Taiwan will offer daily service between Taipei and Singapore. Flights for September 26-28 are already fully booked, with flights on the following days up to 90% full.
Tigerair Taiwan will operate flights on the Airbus A320, which seats 180 people. To drum up demand, the airline is offering 10,000 tickets at a reduced “experience” price. Eighty passengers per flight will be able to enjoy the reduced-fare tickets, which will sell for NT$888 (roughly US$29).
