National Taiwan University (NTU) ranks 76th among universities in the world. That’s the word from the UK QS World University Rankings 2014. The rankings compare the world’s top 800 universities in research, teaching, employability and international outlook.
MIT topped the list, followed by Cambridge University and Imperial College London. Harvard University placed fourth, followed by Oxford University, University College London, and Stanford University. Caltech placed eighth and Princeton and Yale rounded out the top ten.
NTU is the only university in Taiwan in the top 100. It moved up 6 spots this year. NTU Vice President Chen Liang-Gee explains the reason for the hire ranking.
Chen said, "With the support of the Ministry of Education, we’ve been able to see the results of our research. Some of these have made covers of important academic magazines and become important theses. We’ve also increased the number of teachers so this has also been a factor."
The QS rankings found that many universities in Taiwan have moved up on the list. National Tsing Hua University jumped 32 spots from last year to 167. National Chiao Tung University moved up to 202, National Cheng Kung University moved up to 232, National Yang Ming University moved up to 256, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology moved up to 372. However, Taipei Medical University fell 16 spots to 379.
