Taiwan’s waste oil scandal has affected 524 food companies in Hong Kong. These companies had bought oil from Taiwan’s Chang Guann Company, the company that reprocessed waste oil and sold it as oil for use in food.

Hong Kong authorities are currently working on a mechanism to track the flow of waste oil.

On Sunday, Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety listed 383 companies that had used Chang Guann’s oil. Some of the stores on the list include famous eateries such as Wang Jia Sha and Saint Honore Cake Shop. On Tuesday, the Centre listed another 141 other food stores and restaurants that may have used the waste oil.

Director of Hong Kong’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department Vivian Lau said that six Hong Kong companies have imported oil from Chang Guann. The companies on the latest list have done business with those six companies.

The public in Hong Kong has been upset about the food scandal. Lau said she was willing to listen to people’s suggestions and concerns.
