National Immigration Agency extradites Emirati man on terrorist list

The National Immigration Agency (NIA) confirmed Thursday that it has extradited an Emirati man on a US list of terrorists.

The man attempted to enter the country Wednesday, taking a flight from Shanghai to Kaohsiung in the south of Taiwan. Immigration officers detained the man once they had found his name on the list. The man was taken to Taoyuan Airport and put on a flight back to the UAE.

The NIA says that Taiwan and the US signed an agreement on exchanging lists of terrorists in 2011. The US then gave Taiwan permission to access the Remote Query International (RQI) system, a US database of known terrorists. RQI is the most complete database of terrorists in the world.

Meanwhile, the NIA has built up its own list of terrorists, which it has shared with US authorities three times. The list contains more than 6000 entries.
