V Air will launch its services by the end of the year with an inaugural flight to Bangkok. V Air is a subsidiary of TransAsia Airways and Taiwan’s second budget airline.

V Air CEO Eleni Lung said the airline will offer passengers great surprises in terms of ticket prices and services. She also hinted that prices for some tickets might even drop below NT$888 (around US$30). Passengers can also enjoy in-flight meals that include a variety of Taiwanese dishes.

With a fleet of up to five A320 aircraft during initial operations, the carrier aims to first tap into travel markets in Northeast and Southeast Asia, including Japan and South Korea.

The carrier is likely to face competition from Tigerair Taiwan, a budget airline joint venture between Taiwan's China Airlines (CAL) and Singapore's Tiger Airways, which will launch Sept. 26 with an inaugural flight to Singapore.
