Taipei’s Department of Health has reported the first local case of dengue fever.
The Department of Health said on Friday that a student in Taipei reportedly developed dengue fever last Friday. The student had participated in a school trip between September 5-7.
Based on the incubation period for dengue fever and the fact that the student had not travelled overseas, authorities believe that the source of infection is somewhere in the Taipei area.
The Taipei City Government set up an interdepartmental working group to respond to the case on Friday. Meanwhile, the Department of Health says that it will continue to monitor the situation and attempt to track down the possible source of infection.
