Sea warning issued for tropical storm Fung-Wong
Approaching storm

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has issued a sea warning for Tropical Storm Fung-Wong. The bureau said on Friday that the storm will affect Taiwan over the weekend.

It is likely that the center of the storm will pass over waters east of Taiwan as it heads northeast toward Japan. Fung-Wong is expected to bring rainfall and winds to all parts of Taiwan starting Saturday.

The weather bureau warned of heavy waves along Taiwan’s coastal areas starting from late Friday. Boats operating in the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines should be on alert as well.

Fung Wong is the 16th storm of the 2014 Pacific typhoon season. It means phoenix in Cantonese. As of 5 p.m. Friday local time, the storm was centered some380 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving in a west-northwesterly direction at a speed of 15 km/h.
