Taiwan's export orders could grow in August: MOEA

Taiwan is expected to report a year-on-year increase in export orders for August on the back of peak season effects for the bellwether electronics sector. That’s the word from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) on Saturday.

The ministry is scheduled to release the August export order data on Monday.

In July, Taiwan's export orders totaled US$38.18 billion, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier but down 1.6 percent from the previous month. Taiwan-made electronics grew 11.2 percent in July over a year earlier, and valued at US$9.57 billion, it is one of Taiwan’s largest export categories.

The MOEA said that with international brands preparing to upgrade their smartphone models, global demand for handheld devices has been on the rise, while applications in fourth-generation telecom services and the Internet of Things have also been broadening.

Under such favorable circumstances, local semiconductor suppliers are expected to report an increase in overseas orders in August.
