Taiwan’s military says that 42,141 military personnel are on standby as Tropical Storm Fung-Wong passes through Taiwan. Officials have also allotted 2,358 vehicles, 15 aircraft, 221 boats, 1,495 motorcycles, and 494 water pumps.
Meanwhile, local officials are on call at a network of regional disaster preparedness centers around the nation.
Officials are also monitoring areas of southern Taiwan for the possibility of landslides. The Council of Agriculture has identified 39 areas in Taitung County, southeastern Taiwan, which are on red alert. The council has raised a yellow alert for an additional 400 areas across four counties.
So far there have been no reports of major damage. As of 3pm on Sunday, two people were injured as a result of the storm, and 2,743 people had been evacuated, with 939 people housed in temporary shelters.
Power outages have affected more than 65,000 households, of which nearly 5,000 were still without electricity as of broadcast time.
