Shares in Taiwan closed lower Thursday on futures-led selling as foreign institutional investors sold in the spot market to make profits in the futures market.
The bellwether electronics sector remained the major target of foreign sellers as they continued to lock in the gains built in recent sessions, while selling spread to old economy and financial stocks to drag down the broader market further.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended down 86.90 points, or 0.95 percent, at 9,011.59.
