Taiwan’s first budget carrier takes to the skies
Noodles, anyone?

Taiwan’s first locally-run budget airline, Tigerair Taiwan, launched its maiden flight Friday.

The Airbus A320 left Taoyuan International Airport for Singapore at 10:20 Friday morning. The flight was completely full.

Tigerair Taiwan is a joint venture between Taiwan’s China Airlines and Singapore’s Tiger Airways. Though there are 13 other low-cost carriers with flights to Taiwan, Tigerair Taiwan is the first budget airline that is Taiwanese-owned.

Initially, the airline plans to operate a daily flight from Taipei to Singapore and a daily flight from Singapore back to Taipei. The airline also plans to add flights to Bangkok and Chiang Mai by mid-November.
