Chinese President Xi Jinping said that peaceful unification is the ultimate direction of cross-strait relations. President Xi said that would best be done through a “one country, two systems” policy. He was speaking on Friday to a delegation of Taiwanese politicians including New Party Chairman Yok Mu-ming during their visit.
In response, opposition lawmaker Kuan Biling said that Taiwan should express its stance to China at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting.
At the legislature, Premier Jiang yi-huah said, “ No need to wait for APEC. We can express our stance at a public venue like this. The Republic of China will never accept a 'one country, two systems' policy. Our stance has always been under the structure of the Republic of China. We want to put Taiwan and the people’s interests first.”
He said Taiwan’s policy would not change. Jiang also said the APEC meeting revolves around economic leaders and matters. It is understandable if international affairs are not addressed there. But he said that the government would find the appropriate time to express its stance to China.
