Taiwan wins two men’s golfing golds at Asian Games
Golfers Grab Gold!

Taiwanese golfers in the men’s event grabbed both the individual and team golds at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, on Sunday. Pan Cheng-tsung was ranked first with a one under par 71 in the fourth round on Sunday for a total of 271. He was followed by a Korean competitor Kim Namhun with a total of 273, and another Taiwanese competitor Yu Chun-an in third who finished with 276 points. A third Taiwanese competitor was ranked eighth.

In the team competition, as of press time it looked as though the Taiwan team would walk away with the gold, followed by South Korea with the silver, and Thailand edging out both China and Japan for the bronze.

As of Sunday afternoon, Taiwanese athletes had racked up seven golds, four silvers and 11 bronzes in the games, under the official team name Chinese Taipei. That puts the team in sixth place overall in the medal rankings.

One of the 11 bronze medals came on Sunday with Taiwan’s Kuo Cheng-wei beating Japanese competitor Kikuchi Hideki, 6-2 in the men’s recurve archery event.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s baseball team was set to face off against the South Korean team in the finals on Sunday night. That’s after Taiwan beat Japan 10-4, and South Korea beat China 7-4 on Saturday. Taiwan faces an uphill battle, though. When the team faced off against South Korea on Thursday, it lost 10-0.
