Consumer confidence up in September

Consumer confidence has bounced back in September. That’s the word from the Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development at National Central University on Monday.

The research center said that consumer confidence dropped more than five points in August due to a series of major disasters and food safety scandals. But the latest figures show that consumers have regained their optimism in September.

The latest figures for Taiwan’s consumer confidence index edged up 0.1 points to 83.16. Out of the six sub-indices, three saw rises, including: confidence in employment for the next six months, the local business climate, and family finances. There were decreases in the other three, including: sentiments towards the timing for buying durable goods, consumer prices, and the timing for investing in the stock market.
