Grand Justices to make constitutional interpretation on voting age: Premier
Premier Jiang Yi-huah

Premier Jiang Yi-huah has said that the Grand Justices Council will make a decision on lowering the voting age. Jiang’s comment on Friday at the legislature was in response to an amendment proposal to lower the voting age from 20 to 18.

Premier Jiang said that the legislature might not have the power to change regulations on the voting age, as it is a constitutional issue. He said a request for constitutional interpretation has been filed, and the Grand Justices Council will soon decide if a change in voting age would require amending the constitution.

Currently, the minimum voting age in Taiwan is 20 and the minimum legal age for running in elections is 23.
