Taiwanese karate athlete Wen Ziyun won a gold medal on Friday in the 55kg category at the Asian Games in Incheon. That brings the gold medal count for Taiwan to nine.
Wen defeated rivals from Malaysia, Vietnam and Japan including Kobayashi Miki, the third ranking karate athlete in the world before winning the gold.
She defeated her Kazakhstani rival Zakharova Sabina with a score of 7 to 1. President Ma Ying-jeou and other top officials sent a note of congratulations after hearing the news.
