Interior ministry responds to Housing Movement
Housing Movement rally

The Interior Ministry has responded to Saturday’s rally for affordable housing. The ministry said it’s looking into the feasibility of creating special legislation that would regulate leases, and adding provisions to the housing laws which would offer tax relief for lessors, and subsidies and tax breaks for repairs on rentals.

The Interior Ministry also says that it’s planning to hold a forum on Monday to address housing policies, as well as an additional forum next January to address public housing policies.

The ministry says that it respects housing rights, and agrees that property tax reforms are necessary. It also expressed support for the use of public land to build more public housing, and offering additional assistance and creating reforms to improve the housing market.
