On this day in 1999, Chen Chin-hsing, Taiwan's most notorious criminal who kidnapped and killed the 17-year-old daughter of television celebrity Pai Ping-ping in April 1997, was executed after being sentenced to death for his crimes. Chen was also found guilty of killing of three other people and raping more than a dozen women in the greater Taipei area.
