Premier: Taiwan is defending against Chinese cyber-attacks

China is making cyber-attacks on government websites in Taiwan every day. That’s the word from the government’s information security chief Simon Chang.

Speaking at the legislature on Tuesday, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said that Chinese hackers are continuously testing Taiwan’s government websites and attacking civilian ones to see what kind of cyber-attacks they can get away with. But the premier said Taiwan is able to defend itself:

"Cross-strait relations aren’t really that peaceful. There is a lot going on underneath the quiet surface. China has political ambitions for Taiwan, so it is working to attack many of Taiwan’s activities, including military exercises on land, sea or air or on the internet, so we will not let our guard down," said Jiang.

The premier said in the event of simultaneous military and cyber-attacks on Taiwan, Taiwan’s key agencies will be intact. In terms of cyber warfare, the premier said Taiwan is now focusing on having a strong defense.
