A Nigerian woman who arrived in Taiwan on Thursday has tested negative for the Ebola virus. The 45-year-old woman was sent to hospital immediately after arriving in Taiwan at the nation’s main point of entry – the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Officials with Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Friday that the woman arrived in Taiwan showing signs of fever and complaining of joint and muscle pain. But CDC Deputy Director-General Chou Jih-haw said Friday morning that she had been cleared of the disease.
“After administering tests last night, at one o’clock this morning the results came back negative, and we have ruled out an Ebola infection," Chou said.
Taiwan has issued travel warnings for three West African countries that have been affected by the Ebola virus. They are Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Authorities are warning against non-essential travel to those countries.
Meanwhile visitors from those three countries arriving in Taiwan will be immediately handed a special form with related health information.
