Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin and the mayor of Matsuyama, Japan, Noshi Katsuhito, have signed an agreement to boost exchanges.
During Monday’s signing ceremony, Hau said he hoped cooperative efforts could cover not just tourism but also culture, education, sport, and industry.
He also says he hopes to see scheduled flights between Taipei’s Songshan Airport and Matsuyama. The way you write “Songshan” in Chinese is identical to the characters used to write Matsuyama in Japanese. The Taipei city airport was originally called the Matsuyama Airdrome when it was built in the 1930’s, a time when Taiwan was under Japanese control.
At Monday’s ceremony, Noshi declared Mayor Hau an honorary citizen of Matsuyama and presented him with the keys to the city.
