Panama’s first lady visits Taiwan social welfare organizations
Meeting the First Lady of Panama

Panama’s First Lady, Lorena Isabel Castillo de Varela, has visited a number of social welfare organizations in Taiwan.

Varela led a Panamanian delegation to attend Taiwan’s National Day celebrations on Friday. She is a noted supporter of public welfare and charity in Panama. Taiwan’s First Lady, Chow Mei-ching accompanied Varela on a series of visits to religious, charitable, and educational organizations.

President Ma Ying-jeou said on Monday that Taiwan and Panama have enjoyed over a century of unbroken relations. He said that both countries have a long history of exchanges in fields such as personnel training, medicine, and agriculture. Ma said he hopes that Varela’s visit to Taiwan will help strengthen cultural and social ties between the two countries.
