St. Lucia reported on the Republic of China’s National Day in its local news magazine Nationwide on Saturday. The Republic of China’s 103rd National Day was observed on October 10. The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
The article described the stable and peaceful development of cross-strait ties since President Ma Ying-jeou took office. It mentioned Ma’s East China Sea Peace Initiative for which he was awarded the Eisenhower Medallion Award by the not-for-profit organization, People to People International.
The article also spoke of Taiwan’s aim to join regional trade pacts such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). It highlighted Taiwan’s efforts to participate in global agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The magazine also posted the National Day speech of Taiwan’s ambassador to St. Lucia, James Chang.
