Taiwan's former representative to the United States, King Pu-tsung, took office Tuesday as the secretary-general of the National Security Council.
King is the fourth person to be appointed by President Ma Ying-jeou since 2008.
King, Ma's close ally, was deputy Taipei mayor from 2004 to 2006 when Ma was mayor. King was also the former secretary general of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT).
