Taiwanese manufacturers of Strategic Hi-Tech Commodities (SHTC) must receive a permit before exporting their products. That’s the word from the Bureau of Foreign Trade Friday.
The bureau said the requirement is in line with international practices designed to curb the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction while ensuring regional peace and stability.
Since July of 1995, Taiwan has implemented a comprehensive system based on an EU list to regulate the export of SHTC.
According to the list, SHTC includes defense technology, aerospace-grade composite materials, quantum key distribution systems, high performance computers, advanced machine tools as well as space-qualified radiation-hardened electronics.
The bureau said manufacturers must get a permit before their products can clear customs.
The bureau also said violators will face punitive actions should they provide goods or materials to internationally-sanctioned areas or countries.
