The government has given the green light for more four-day weekends.
This is a part of the government’s plan to stimulate domestic consumption, economic growth and make scheduling easier for the public.
Under the plan, if a national holiday falls on Tuesday or Thursday, the public will get to take Monday or Friday off to make a four-day weekend. But people will still have to make up for the “extra” holiday by working or going to school on the Saturday before the 4-day weekend.
Cabinet Spokesman Sun Lih-chyun said the decision was made after discussion with labor groups, financial institutions, and the business sector. Most labor groups are positive about the flexible schedule. A survey by the National Development Council shows that nearly 70% of the polled are supportive of the schedule.
As next year’s New Year’s Day falls on Thursday, the public will get to take Friday off that weekend. But they have to make up for the holiday on Saturday, December 27th.
