Taiwan continues to be a regional peacemaker: Ma
President Ma meets with CNAS delegation

President Ma Ying-jeou says Taiwan will continue to be a regional peacemaker. Ma was speaking Monday while meeting the delegation of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a non-profit organization based in Washington.

Ma said as the United States is promoting its policy of rebalancing to Asia, there is much room for cooperation. That’s because Taiwan is not only promoting cross-strait peace but also peace and stability in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

“We will continue playing the role of a regional peacemaker," said Ma. "That’s because we have always believed that the situation in East Asia will affect China, Japan, the United States and ASEAN. As the region is the engine of the global economy, it will become a new arsenal if [conflicts there] are not properly handled.

Ma said his administration is pragmatically mapping out national security strategies. Those strategies include the institutionalization of cross-strait reconciliations, national defense, and Taiwan’s contributions to the global community.
