Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Wang Yu-chi is set to attend next month’s APEC forum in Beijing as an advisor. That’s the word from Foreign Minister David Lin on Tuesday.
This year’s APEC or the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum will be held in Beijing in early November.
Former Vice President Vincent Siew is set to lead Taiwan’s delegation on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou. Taiwan’s leaders have been barred from participating in the forum due to opposition from China, which sees Taiwan as part of its territory.
Foreign Minister David Lin said the government is hoping to take the opportunity during the APEC forum to strengthen interactions with Indonesia, India and ASEAN nations.
