Taiwan is reasserting sovereignty over the disputed Diaoyutai Islands.
The foreign ministry made the comments on Friday in response to media reports that Japan included the disputed islands in its revised national map.
The Diaoyutai Islands, located in the East China Sea, are known as the Senkakus in Japan. In addition to Taiwan and Japan, China also claims that it owns the islands.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry said it had expressed its concerns to the Japanese government. It also called on all parties involved in the territorial dispute to shelve their differences and jointly explore and develop resources in the area.
