The foreign ministry said on Saturday that it helped some 200 Chinese tourists return home earlier this week. That’s after they were stranded in the Pacific island country of Palau due to flight cancelations.
The Chinese tourists were scheduled to leave Palau on Oct. 23, but they were stranded on the island because their flight was canceled. Palau has diplomatic ties with Taiwan but not China, so the tourists sought help from the Taiwanese embassy there on Oct. 25.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao said based on humanitarian considerations, the embassy helped all 200 tourists return home on Friday.
