Japanese Yen depreciation attracts Taiwanese to visit Japan
International Travel Fair

The depreciation of the Japanese Yen and the upcoming Taipei International Travel Fair mean more Taiwanese will be traveling to Japan.

Japan’s Central Bank recently announced expansion in their quantitative easing program. The Japanese Yen is also decreasing to the point of 1 USD to 113 Japanese Yen. These trends make Japan a more attractive destination for Taiwanese tourists.

Lion Travel says that Taiwanese traveling to Japan have already increased 30% over last year. Beginning October 1, Japan also began offering duty free products, such as food, drinks, cigarettes, makeup and other goods to visitors. Taipei’s upcoming travel fair will also be offering special promotions.

These trends should mean better business for local travel agencies. But Phoenix Tours says that since travel agents operate based on long-term exchange rates, industry costs have not decreased. Travel companies will only be able to profit more in regards to commission.
