MAC Minister set to meet his Chinese counterpart next Wed
APEC prep

Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Wang Yu-chi is set to meet his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun on November 12th , a day after the APEC forum ends. Wang confirmed the news Monday.

This year’s APEC, or the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, will be held in Beijing on November 5th. The event will last through November 11th.

Former Vice President Vincent Siew is set to lead Taiwan’s delegation on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou. Taiwan’s presidents have been barred from participating in the forum due to opposition from China, which sees Taiwan as part of its territory.

Wang will participate in the event as an advisor. He and the head of China’s Taiwan’s Affairs Office, Zhang Zhijun, will hold an informal meeting. Wang said he will not discuss a possible future meeting between Taiwan and China’s presidents during the talks.
