The local nine-in-one elections are less than a month away and the Taichung mayoral candidates blasted each other on Tuesday over a Taichung metro line.
A DPP city councilor said that a recent proposal for the orange line was rejected by the city government. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lin Chia-lung accused his rival Mayor Jason Hu of not caring about the Taichung metro line.
"He just doesn’t care. Or is he trying to fool everyone for the election? I think that’s what most residents are wondering. Why is it that in the past 13 years, not one metro line has been completed in Taichung? That’s why I think someone else should be mayor. I’ll keep my promise about the metro," said Lin.
When Mayor Hu heard Lin’s accusations, he was livid.
"It wasn’t rejected. Every report will be amended by the central government, how is that called rejected? [The media] shouldn’t make a big deal of these things and I shouldn’t be answering this question," said Hu.
Hu also said that whenever the public applies for a license or construction permit, the city government will propose amendments. He said he hopes the media doesn’t exaggerate these issues.
