As the tainted oil scandal is spreading, a couple of Tainan oil companies are also suspected of manufacturing substandard oil. Prosecutors in Tainan said on Monday that the owner of Bei Hai Oil and Hsieh Ching Corp. is suspected of mixing beef tallow with inedible vegetable oil and selling it as cooking oil.
Food and Drug Administration interim head Jiang Yu-mei said on Tuesday that six Bei Hai products have been pulled off the shelves.
Jiang said all the downstream companies that use the problem oil must report its inventory by 6 pm. on Wednesday and take the tainted products off the shelves by Friday.
This new development comes on the back of many recent scandals at major Taiwanese oil production companies.
