The first televised debate for Taipei mayoral candidates is scheduled to start at 8pm Friday. Although seven people are vying to become the capital city’s mayor, only the two frontrunners were invited to participate in the debate. They are ruling Kuomintang candidate Sean Lien and independent candidate Ko Wen-je.

The debate, hosted by SET-TV news, will start with the two candidates taking turns to talk about their campaign platforms. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session with six NGOs. The two candidates will also have time to question each other.

Both candidates have been preparing for their first televised debate. Sean Lien’s campaign manager Tsai Cheng-yuan said the ruling party candidate hopes to convey his vision, while independent candidate Ko Wen-je said he would just be himself during the debate.

Residents of Taipei will elect a new mayor on Nov. 29.
