Taiwan is set to hold its biggest local elections on November 29. These elections have been given the name “9-in-1 elections” because voters will select candidates to fill nine different positions, ranging from mayors to city councilors. The government wants to simplify the election process by holding elections for these same offices every 4 years.

This year, 19,762 candidates are running to fill 11,130 seats.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of the Interior Chen Chwen-jing reminded people that they can vote from 8am to 4pm on the day of the election. People must bring their ID, personal chop and voting notice to the voting booth. Voters must also use writing tools provided by the Central Election Commission when they circle their chosen candidates.

Mobile phones and video cameras will not be allowed in the voting booths. Violators will be fined between NT$30,000 to NT$300,000.

Chen also reminded the public about rules regarding donations to political candidates. He said that the cap for individual political donations is NT$100,000 per year for one candidate. The cap for total political donations one can make is NT$200,000 a year. Groups from China, Hong Kong and Macau are not allowed to make political donations. The deadline for political donations is November 28.
