More than 345,000 passengers use new line on Taipei metro
Massive signs point the way

Passengers flooded the Taipei Metro system on Saturday to experience the newest line in the system – the Songshan Line. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation said Sunday that more than 345,000 people turned out to ride along the line on the first day of operation.

The 8.5-kilometer line contains a total of eight stations and stretches from Ximen, in an older part of the city, to the Songshan Train Station, where passengers can transfer to the national rail service.

The new line is operating free of charge or with reduced tariffs for EasyCard holders who enter or exit one of the eight stations, during the month following Saturday’s launch.

About 725,000 riders enjoyed reduced tariffs on the first day.
