Taiwan grabs 21U Baseball World Cup title
Victory at 21U World Cup

Taiwan has captured the first ever 21U (21-and-under) Baseball World Cup title. The national team beat Japan 9-0 in the central city of Taichung Sunday night.

Baseball’s Official World Championships have been previously staged for players that are 12 years of age and under, as well as 15U, 18U and professional categories. Sunday’s match in Taichung marks the latest expansion of the biennial World Cup event to include a category for players that are 21 and under.

Taiwan and Japan emerged as the finalists out of 11 nations, including: South Korea, Nicaragua, Australia, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.

Japan came into the championship game without a single error throughout the tournament. But its winning streak stopped Sunday when host team Taiwan rallied to grab the title.

It was the first world championship win for Taiwan since it won the inaugural 12U Baseball World Cup that was held in Taipei in 2011.
